Lobby Nomad is an initiative to open unused private lobbies for small entrepreneurs, students and freelancers who are looking for cheap workspace or studios in a sector that does not offer it. More and more space is being built in cities such as Rotterdam, but how do we deal with the space that is already there? With this question I took to the streets in search of empty or unused space in existing buildings. I found that space at the base of apartments: The lobby. These places are often neglected and apart from the regular visits from the cleaner, they are only used as a walk-through. In a time where space is scarce and workplaces are unaffordable, as someone who has been trained in communication skills, I think this is a problem that needs to be highlighted. “For example, together with policymakers, the use of neglected spaces must be reconsidered, without being intrusive”.
